"The Reunion"
Through the years she had thought
many times about the events of that
evening.
Was it merely a coincidence that she
had seen Shoo-Fly the very night
after she had held the small sprig of
parsley tightly in her hands,
talking to him as she held it,
asking that he show himself so she
would know that he was o'k?
Or had there been more to it than
just coincidence?
The parsley sprig represented their
first meeting and the bond they
shared.
Had love and the strength of this bond
reached the ears of her absent friend,
even though they may have been
blocks apart?
Was this why she had seen him the
very next evening?
Of course she never knew,
but she had often wondered.
But on Mother's Day, May 9th. of 1999,
there had not been a bond strong enough on the earth to bring him back to her
this time...
for this was the day he had left for the Bridge.
"Oh, Shoo", she said aloud in a voice so weak it was just barely above a whisper.
"Why did you have to leave me that day?"
And now in her mind and heart,
she returned once again to that fateful day,
a day once hated, but eventually loved,
for it, too, held the memory of her precious friend.
